Ronnie Seery trained as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse and then as a Registered
General Nurse in Dublin, where he was born and bred. Starting in 1986,
he worked in isolation nursing (and HIV) in St. Mary's Hospital in Paddington
for two and a half years before obtaining a job as a Health Adviser in
St. Georges' Hospital in Tooting. During his tenure there, he trained in
psychosexual psychotherapy.
After moving to the Royal London Hospital as Senior Health Adviser ten years ago he trained as a Clinical Superviser for Counsellors and Psychotherapists. He has recently been awarded the Certificate in Management from the Institute of Management.
He has seven years experience as a group facilitator for gay men with AIDS for the Terrence Higgins Trust, three years experience as a member of the Board of Directors of Positively Irish Action on AIDS and twenty years experience of telephone helpline work, the latter seven years as a Director.
This is his first SSHA position.
HONORARY NATIONAL SECRETARY SSHA: Roles and responsibilities
- To be responsible for the secretarial support of council to include preparation of agendas, minutes and being responsible for the notification of times and places of meetings.
- To answer enquiries about the Society.
- To produce a written report for the AGM.
- To support council constructively in carrying out its duties.
- To contribute to meetings and to take on specific tasks, from time to time, as agreed by council.
- To co-ordinate the election of officers and publish results to the membership.
- To attend all council meetings.
Council recommends that this officer should have at least two years experience as a health adviser and as a member of SSHA.
