<p><strong>SSHA National Professional Committee are asking for feedback on the newly developed SSHA National Sexual Health Adviser Competencies. </strong></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: justify;">You will probably be aware that this year’s SSHA Annual Conference that was to have been held at the Hilton Hotel in Belfast in September, has been cancelled due to lack of take-up. Reasons for lack of take-up are thought to be – accessibility/cost of travel, getting time off work, lack of funding for training.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">In order to meet our commitment to provide training for members, we are instead offering a one-day training event to be held in<strong> London</strong> on <strong>Friday 8th October 2010.</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The day will begin at 10:30 and end at 16:30. This should allow members to travel to and from the conference on the same day.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">
<p style="text-align: justify;">This year’s SSHA conference will be at the <a href="http://www.hilton.co.uk/belfast" target="_blank">Hilton Hotel Belfast</a> from September 17th &#8211; 19th 2010.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Please note that for the third year running we have not raised the conference fee and feel this is important for members in the current NHS financial climate.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">This is the first time the conference has ever been held in Ireland, and it will be an opportunity to hear about the cultural influences and challenges that we face working in sexual health. Dawn Purvis, a member of the legislative assembly (MLA),  will be opening the conference. Her work involves supporting advocacy groups on often controversial sexual health issues.</p>
<p>Interest in presenting has already started and among the topics will be:</p>
<ul>
<li>Women’s experience of HIV in pregnancy</li>
<li>Cultural influences and stigma and sexuality</li>
<li>LGV and HIV transmission</li>
<li>The issue of  abortion provision in Northern Ireland</li>
<li>Supervision and health advising</li>
</ul>
